Star Star

Once again, as in so many Westerns, the horse stole the show. Granddaughters sat front and center on the green wooden benches arranged in the grassy clearing of the Heritage Village. They hardly blinked during the melodrama, but that costumed Sasquatch was no match for Star, the equine performer.

Sunset Arrival

Worth the wait! Eager for more performances!

Waiting for Sunset

Chilled enough for jackets and a fire, we positioned ourselves for the evening view.

Wendy's

Lunch at the brand new and upscale Wendy's was a hit. Baconators for the guys, salads for the gals, kid meals and Frosties for kids.

Giddy-up!

Thursday we lucked into a ride on the Nisswa Stagecoach. We rocked, we swayed, we raced. Granddaughters were impressed with the experience, asked lots of questions, and befriended the team of horses. Yesterday the girls returned with parents so they could ride on top. Today we have tickets to see the western stunt show. Yee-hah!

Fish Dinner

Our fishing trio successfully braved cool winds and a lake covered with
white caps Friday morning to catch dinner for last night.
Unanimously agreed delicious!

Choxing

Ummm, enjoying ice cream at the Chocolate Ox, shortened to Chox by granddaughters, who claim it as another home away from home. A helpful tourist offered to take our photo so I could join the pose. Perhaps Blanche DuBois spoke for all us photographers who rarely get in the picture and said it best: "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers."

PBL

There is absolutely no way to describe or explain six hours today at Paul Bunyan Land. After I cull through photos where granddaughters are often a blur (Tilt-a-Whirl etc) I will post a few, or more than a few, as testimonials.

Right now it's five o'clock somewhere/here, and my hand without this iPhone is holding a Paul-Bunyan-size mug of adult beverage while I soak up more sun on the cool lake's sandy beach. Ahhhh....
Where is the rest of my group? Pawpaw is inside holding down the recliner, younger is waiting for me to hand over my iPhone for games, and older is reading a kid book on my Kindle. Lots of chillaxin for grandparents and grandchildren! Probably same for the parents back in the Twin Cities!

Big Guy

Ready for fun at Paul Bunyan Land! He even remembered us from previous years. Under a super sunny sky, we used plenty of sunscreen. Let the rides begin!

Bookless

The library was closed yesterday, and the quickest solution was to use my Kindle. The three kid books I have on there won't last long, so more downloads must happen soon. Here come the free classics!

A & W

Burgers, fries, lemonade, and ice cream. Nothing has changed at the good ol' A&W, not even the jukebox. They tasted the root beer again but still aren't convinced.

Never too old for the green frog!

Day's End

This sunset at the lake was just ducky. Granddaughters are quiet and ready for bed. Me, too. Almost.

Taco Night

Taco night at our resort was a big hit with the girls building their own taco salads and eating two each. They washed them down with kiddie cocktails, and we grandparents had Fat Tire on tap.
Stuffed, we headed to the arcade room next door. One girl spent all of her money and the other spent none. Guess which!
Before leaving, we will stop by the popcorn maker and help ourselves to snacks for munching later at the condo. Maybe we should take a little hike around the gardens before ending the day. Or a long hike.

Walleye Lunch Plus

Start with a lake view, add a bloody mary and chaser, then dig into a walleye on ciabatta bread. We must be on vacation! Again!

Breakfast and More

Here's what remains after I ate a third of a really big slice of sausage and pepperjack cheese quiche. Later!

Gull Lake

Making great time, we are less than an hour from Gull Lake and our condo cabin. The best part is reuniting with family, of course.
The flight yesterday evening was on time, the taxi driver last night made no wrong turns, my key worked in the front door, and we were asleep by 11:00. This morning we were up at 6:00, loaded our things, headed for the local TJ's Coffee, and left there at 7:00 with coffees, a cinnamon-apple scone for Jim, and a slice of sausage-pepperjack cheese quiche for me. (Yummy, but one-third of that huge slice was plenty, rest saved for another time. Also have to save appetite for the walleye sandwich planned for lunch.)
(If anyone reading this wants to know what happened to the rest of the SD posts, I am saving my notes. For someday.)
