Saturday Lunch

Fortunately, the Chart House where we ate lunch had a table for us on the upper deck with excellent views of the Savannah River.

Park people

In one of the squares, a Gullah storyteller performed for a group of older girl scouts and some of us curious walkers. By the end of his tale sprinkled with life lessons, he had woven a Savannah rose from the long grass blades.

Saturday Walks

Walking in the Savannah Historic District, we were most impressed by the design of squares, which most of us would call parks. Names and statues honor people from Georgia's history.

The red brick building is the Mercer-Williams House, once occupied by Johnny Mercer, the songwriter. We also saw the sites of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The fountain is in Forsyth Park, actually a large park and not a square this time.

Saturday AM Later

From Daisy's house we walked to the Ships of Sea Museum. Before going inside, we posed on the steps for a photographer to take the standard tour group photo. All I could get was people walking up the steps.

After seeing enough ship models etc., I turned my camera to the garden area.

Saturday AM

After a colorful sunrise and buffet breakfast, we went to the house of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts. I expected the historic beauty, but the abundance of furniture and personal belongings was outstanding. She painted, sculpted, and welded in addition to traveling and entertaining. Several groups of Girl Scouts were also there, as they are every day, for heritage tours and special programs. This year they commemorate the 100 years anniversary of GSA.

Juliette's nickname was Daisy, and she preferred to be called that all her life, so of course her garden had daisies blooming.
