Sunday Skate Prep

Even with recent mild weather, outdoor ice rink is sufficiently frozen at the park at the end of the cul-de-sac. Parents help with skates while Pawpaw tempts luck by walking across the rink. I am looking for tree branches suitable to use as splints in case he slips and falls.

Sunday Breakfast -- Yum!

With a full day of activities planned, we prepared with a hearty breakfast at the Louisiana Cafe, homage to Mardi Gras. One male adult had the signature meal of Cajun Eggs Benedict pictured first, two female adults split another, one granddaughter had the second pictured plate, other had the third, and final male adult ordered regular American breakfast (no photo). We were fortified for the rest of the day, or until we worked up appetites again.

Our timing was perfect. When we arrived, we had a table almost immediately; when we left, the waiting line had filled the entrance and was packed outside the door.

Chillin'

One granddaughter reads and the other looks at old photos. I click my phone camera.

Saturday Skaters

Granddaughters improve with every lesson, so much so that my photos capture only blurs here and there, especially after cropping and enlarging. My attempts at video produced scenes of body groups not identifiable even to a grandmother. Squint and picture first grader in top photo and third grader in bottom, maybe.

Raffle Prize

Last night we won this "basket" in the raffle at the school fundraiser. Titled "Boys Sleepover," the giant sled piled high with goodies thrilled our granddaughters. They had admired the contents all week when displayed in the school lobby and hoped to win it. Then this morning they came downstairs to find it sitting on the table. Plenty of fun for this four-day weekend!

We also win some silent auction bids but more about that later.

Date Night for a Cause

Parents pause before leaving for school fundraiser at the Nature Center. In addition to a silent auction and raffles, the event serves food and wine. The parent organization, school staff, and committees work to create a major moneymaker that is full of fun.

This year Pawpaw and I are staying home with the granddaughters and bidding on a couple of items via texts between daughter and me. Return tomorrow for the full report.

Backyard Turkeys

First they fly up to the fence, then perch there long enough to survey the scene, and finally jump down to begin pecking for breakfast. With so little snow, the birds easily find bare spots.

Today was Jump Rope for Heart at granddaughters' school. First grader participated in every type of jumping, but third grader stayed home with Pawpaw and me since she is not quite over a cold. School is out until Wednesday, so we are planning lots of time with both girls

Box of Valentines

One of our first activities after arriving was to be an audience for the Valentine show where granddaughters displayed and read from their accumulations. Older granddaughter had decorated a box for transporting hers.

The previous weekend she made Valentines for everyone in her class plus some teachers and staff members. She decided to write a personal greeting or acrostic poem on each and had busy days of fun. Recipients said they were thrilled to have a homemade card, and granddaughter was happy with the results.

(Because my iPhone limits amount of photos in one email, I must post the girls separately.)

Sack of Valentines

Younger granddaughter reads her Valentines and makes special mention of any candy or other treats that accompanied them. Her class decorated sacks for the collections.

MN Girls

Earlier this month the girls dressed up to celebrate green day at their school. Students recycled and practiced ways to be more earth friendly.

For Valentine's their club had a Daughter and Dad Night, so dad was one lucky guy escorting these precious sweethearts.
