20170727 Viewing Collections 2

Thursday 14 photos

Next the chapel, a tiny guest house tucked away, al fresco, wall remnant, and many tractors. The gray one was made in Alsace, and only seven are known to exist today.

20170727 Viewing Collections 1

Thursday 14 photos

This afternoon Suzanne and Jean Michel pick us up at 1:30 to take us to a friend's collection of antiques and art. After a 40-minute drive over winding roads and through small villages, we arrive at the complex and see the courtyard having apple crusher, water well turned planter, cascading fountain, pizza oven, farming equipment, etc., only a small introduction to what follows. Through multiple huge barns of multiple levels, the collections surpass that of the Eco Musee.

The bathroom amuses with adapted conveniences and includes a still for making schnapps.

20170727 Lunch Tarte Flambee

Thursday 14 photos

Today our plan is to skip breakfast and have early lunch of tarte flambee, but the restaurant around the corner from our hotel opens at 11:30am. We walk, I photo, and when we pass the church we look up to see the storks.

Jim chooses the Forestiere, and I have the Roquefort. Tables in outside areas will certainly fill for the afternoon and evening.

20170726 Visiting After Lunch

Wednesday 11 photos

No visit to Marie Jeanne would be complete without photos outdoors and genealogy discussion. First photo has Estelle and MJ's daughter, second has Bernard.

I share pictures with Marie Jeanne of the first time I met the Fingers and once again sign her precious book of visitors.

In genealogy, Marie Jeanne has discovered that we share common Bendele ancestors and can now claim to be cousins. Estelle has helped my cousin Margaret Simpson research the Meyer family and will continue.

Near the end of the visit, MJ gives us a small plate celebrating the Alsace-Medina County connection. When leaving, and waving goodby, I'm wanting one more photo, one more visit.
