FR Strasbourg Lunchers 9/26
Portrait inside the restaurant shows traditional Alsatian dress. We three Texas tourists have much to smile about. Last photo could be art anywhere, including the Frio River, so ooh-la-la to all us bathing beauties!
FR Strasbourg Lunch 9/26
Across a side street from the cathedral, we go inside a small restaurant for flammekuche, an Alsatian specialty we know well. We must have a nice rosé to drink with it, and then we must have pomme tarte streusel to finish the meal. Our table near the front window gives a good view and prolongs our stay at this refuge from the wet weather.
FR Strasbourg Morning 9/26
On yet another drizzly day, we step out of the underground parking area to see this charming carousel. Off to a good start! Then we find dozens of shops and kiosks crammed with Alsatian items surrounding the cathedral. An even better start! So we shop for everything oin our list.
The cathedral overwhelms us with its size and grandeur, and my camera can capture only a small portion. Because I've been here on a previous trip, I appreciate even more the never ending maintenance for this Alsatian gem. I laugh again at the mechanically animated clock, and I weep again at the tribute to the Americans of World War II and my dear uncle.

DK to FR 9/25
Packing means choices. Much as we like collecting brochures and using them, our suitcases don't, especially if the Internet will suffice in the future. Tart apples picked from a tree growing on property that once belonged to husband's family are also left behind.
We land in Frankfurt (daughter first and waiting for us this time), pick up our red rent car, and drive to Strasbourg via Offenburg. Tonight our hotel offers beverages tall and cool, and a restaurant close by becomes our dinner destination.

DK Dessert 9/24
Of course the final night in Denmark must include dessert of walnut torte with dark fudge sauce. Across the street we go underground to catch the Metro to our hotel, many items to sort and pack before we catch flights tomorrow.
DK Copenhagen Canal Life 9/24
From the bus we see that Tivoli looks quite different in daylight. After the tour we board the next bus leaving to stop at a couple of places (hop on hop off). First is the Rosenborg Castle with three floors of ultra extravagant architecture and furnishings. We also see special exhibits of jewels and other treasures. Military guards ensure no photos. Outside the rain prevents us from walking through the gardens, not only the rain but also the bitter cold and wind that fought our umbrellas.
While waiting for a bus, we see a delivery truck attempt a u-turn and back into a parked car twice, first smashing the side, then crashing out the window. The driver wastes no time leaving the scene, so we take down the license number and daughter leaves it in the car, easy to do since the glass is gone.
On the bus again, we make our next stop along the canal that hosts dozens of restaurants and bars on one side and quaint homes and businesses on the other side. We see a few wet tourists on boat tours as we stay warm and dry under blankets provided by our bar and beneath heaters. After enjoying adult beverages, we obtain a dinner recommendation from a local woman and head inside the restaurant of choice. From our table at the front window, we watch drizzling rain and thirsty patrons continue outside.

DK Bus Tour 9/24
Waking up to sunshine, we eat a leisurely breakfast in our hotel. Walls and notices proclaim more greenness, but we are chiefly interested in the coffee machine. After turning in our car at the airport, we take the train (photo of downtown train station) to the Copenhagen city center to catch a double decker bus tour. Rare graffiti appears but only for a moment. By now the sky has turned gray, and we keep umbrellas handy.
An important stop is the Little Mermaid, and when we juxtapose our own daughter mermaid, we see how little the statue really is.

DK Tivoli 9/23
After the marathon lunch in Skaelskor, we drove to Copenhagen and arrived at dark. We knew that Tivoli was closing for the season today, so we drove straight to that area first, found a parking space, paid the admission fee, and went inside. Lights, rides, people, food, drinks, architecture, Elvis, etc. Elvis? Yes, we saw him performing at a club in Tivoli Garden.
Light rain and exhaustion soon combined to send us on our way to find the hotel. Without Garmin we might not have been successful because we trusted her completely. Our hotel was new, proudly green, and a totally welcome sight.

DK Sunday Lunch 9/23
Cousin and her husband invited us to lunch at their home where we met all their children and grandchildren. They set up the patio for aperitifs and the party house for the meal. The three courses were traditional Danish and took four hours to consume. Aquavit was available with other adult beverages.
