We have a little ice cream at Marienplatz and taxi back to the hotel, passing by the Angel of Peace one last time. Needing to pack, we postpone dinner and decide to stay at the hotel. I have Irish coffee and a small serving of grilled vegetables; Jim has a Coke and a ham pizza.

20170724 Lunch

Lunch plan is to have tarte flambée at the Ratskeller under the Glockenspiel at Marienplatz, but since it is not available until after 3:00pm, we eat late. First we choose beer (Premium Hell and Dunkel), then food. My Alsatian pizza--yummy. Jim has sausages and potatoes. All the blue and white checks bring Bavarian color. The restaurant is huge but has an assortment of rooms and intimate spots.

Olives plus beer (dunkel for me and blond for Jim) means take a break, so we do and find a dry table.

Other market photos follow, including a May pole that traditionally tells what goods and crafts can be found at that location. On the way to our next stop, twirling skirts draw attention to traditional Bavarian clothes for sale in an upscale store.

2017072 Birkenstock, Market

Breakfast at the hotel buffet always provides a good start for the next adventure. Rain showers dampen today but not our plan for Birkenstock, city market, and tartes flambées.

Birkenstock store has many styles but are not suitable for my feet, so we walk to the market. Never have I seen so many delicious and interesting items! The quality and variety help to explain why foodies must shop here. I stop at an olives stall and choose a scoop of lovely marinated green and black ones.

The Dachau tour ends at the central train station, and we stick to our plan of walking the short distance to Augustiner beer garden. All outdoors, we relax and enjoy the best meal of all the beer gardens we visited.
