20180719 Going to Food Market (6 photos)
Beginning the Food Lovers Tour, we journey by bus and pass landmarks. At the market with our local tour guide, we visit a variety of booths/stalls on her prearranged list, and each has samples for us to taste.
20180719 Brunch with Hanne and Morten (7 photos)
We order a simple but satisfying brunch.
Danes love being outside in the summer. Morten indulges my passion for Georg Jensen jewelry and gives me directions and address, then asks for Jim's forgiveness. After lunch they identify points of interest as we walk to catch a taxi. The driver takes our photo, and I promise to post it on Facebook within the hour. Hanne and Morten walk back to their work, pleased that their Fitbits will record each step.

20180719 Meeting for Brunch (6 photos)
Our plan for meeting Jim's cousin Hanne and her husband Morten includes leaving our tour group at the Amalienborg Castle, and here we are. Across the water is the new Copenhagen Opera House, and on our side a pair of historical markers.
We meet them at the place suggested for lunch but it is closed for holiday. After introductions and hugs, we walk a couple of blocks to another outdoor place and have a good Danish brunch. Visiting is easy because their English is excellent, even though they rarely speak it.

20180719 Walk Continues (6 photos)
Walking along the dock area, our guide points out a large sloping structure across the waterway with two smoke stacks, a new incinerator that burns trash to generate electricity. According to modern legend, the architect designed the shape for adding a ski slope to the top since Denmark has no ski mountains. Then more history . . . .
20180719 Walking Copenhagen (6 photos)
Our guide tells us the full story of the Little Mermaid before we reach her, then of the Ugly Duckling as we approach the swan family. The history walk continues past the Angel of Peace and a park.
20180719 Docking Copenhagen (5 photos)
A couple of photos from our stateroom balcony show the dock area buildings and all the little shops so convenient. We booked the morning walking tour and have a wonderful historian for our tour guide.
20180718 Back to Ship for Dinner (7 photos)
Busing to ship, we watch a bridge raising to allow sailboats to pass. As the ship pulls away from dock, workers on shore wave and sing to us.
Dinner reservation tonight is at Manfredi's for Italian food. We start with our usual proseco and the waiter brings a basket of breads with a small double dish of rich, crumbly Parmesan (18-month Parmigiano Reggiano) and seasoned olive oil. Starters are mussels with crab meat for me and beef carpaccio with slow dried cherry tomatoes and arugula for Jim. We both choose main of thick ribeye rubbed with mushroom powder and other spices with sides of asparagus, red wine a cab shiraz blend. Desserts are chocolate something for Jim and tiramisu for me.
Next day Copenhagen!
