Good question! Newest findings support real shield maidens existed. We read signs when found in English and otherwise look at the pictures. The word fyrkat has no specific meaning but is pronounced fear-cat, and I like thinking of it for a Viking nickname. Our guide (young former high school teacher) has excellent model of a ring fortress.
